STEVENS PASS, Wash. —

Dennis Evans says he's not much of a hiker, but the retired Bremerton shipyard electrical engineer likes the satisfaction of seeing a project through from beginning to end.

The Marysville man has completed plenty of projects as a leading volunteer the past 20 years on construction of the Iron Goat train near Stevens Pass.

Volunteers have turned a 10-mile section of abandoned Great Northern railway bed into a trail enjoyed each year by about 10,000 people.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/uk0FpX) Evans' work can be seen in finely crafted steps, elevated walkways and small bridges.

This summer Evans and his wife Sandy and other volunteers are blazing another half-mile extension of the trail.
