A 28-year-old Normandy Park man who was arrested last month in connection with a Seattle hit-and-run accident that killed bicyclist Michael Wang last year has pleaded guilty.

King County prosecutors said that Erlin Garcia-Reyes pleaded guilty to felony hit-and-run on Tuesday and will face a prison term of two years and seven months to three years and five months at his sentencing hearing scheduled for Aug. 10.

Garcia-Reyes was arrested last month after Seattle police began to investigate him in connection with the accident that killed Wang last July 28.

Wang, 44, a husband, father of two and photographer at PATH, a global-health nonprofit in Seattle, was riding on Dexter Avenue North in Seattle headed toward his Shoreline home when he was struck by an SUV that was making a left turn onto Thomas Street, police said.

The SUV driver fled, according to police, and the accident sent shock waves through Seattle's biking community, prompting calls for added safety measures for cyclists.

When reached last month, a spokesman for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency declined to say whether Garcia-Reyes was in the country illegally. However, the agency confirmed that it had requested a hold on Garcia-Reyes.

Law-enforcement sources said a "hold" typically indicates that a person's immigration status is unclear or that the person is in the country illegally and could face deportation pending the resolution of the case.
