SPOKANE, Wash. —

The body of a man who drowned while swimming Friday in the Spokane River was recovered Sunday near Ford.

The Stevens County sheriff's office says the 21-year-old man was not wearing a life jacket. He was swimming with friends when he went under the surface and didn't come up.

Sgt. Jim Caruso said the body was found in about 10 feet of water.

The sheriff's office asked Avista to adjust levels at the Long Lake Dam and the Little Falls Dam while they recovered the body.
