Man presumed drowned in Little Spokane River

Authorities with the Stevens County Sheriff's office are searching a 21-year-old Spokane man believed to have drowned in the Little Spokane River about 40 miles northwest of Spokane.

SPOKANE, Wash. —

Authorities with the Stevens County Sheriff's office are searching a 21-year-old Spokane man believed to have drowned in the Little Spokane River about 40 miles northwest of Spokane.

KHQ-TV reports ( http://bit.ly/OqNQGJ) the man was swimming with friends Friday evening when he went under water near Long Lake. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Sgt. Jim Caruso says there is no indication the man made it to shore and efforts have turned to recovering his body.

The man has not yet been identified.
