EVERETT, Wash. —

A 9-year-old boy is in the hospital after he was pulled from the Pilchuk River east of Everett.

The Daily Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/LR5zx3) the boy was listed in critical condition late Friday. He was flown by helicopter to Seattle Children's Hospital.

Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said Friday that the boy's mother called 911 about 2 p.m. after the boy disappeared under water. A bystander pulled the boy to the river bank, and family began resuscitation efforts.

Fire District 4 battalion chief Craig Heike said the boy reportedly got caught on a small log in the river and the pressure of the water took him under.
