JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. —

In a ceremony Tuesday at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, the Army says Lt. Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti will relinquish command of I (First) Corps to Lt. Gen. Robert B. Brown.

The change of command ceremony involves more than 2,000 service members and a howitzer salute.

Scaparrotti took command of I Corps in October 2010 and recently returned from a year-long deployment as second-in-command in the war in Afghanistan. Scaparotti will next serve as director of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, D.C.

Brown previously served as the commander of 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team and deployed with that unit to Iraq from 2004 thru 2005.
