ASHFORD, Wash. —

Mount Rainier National Park says an effort is under way to recover the body of a ranger who fell to his death a week ago during a rescue operation.

The park says improved weather is allowing a helicopter to fly Thursday, but conditions could still change.

Clouds and avalanche danger delayed efforts to remove Ranger Nick Hall's body from the site on the 11,300-foot level of the 14,411-foot mountain.

Hall's body will be flown to either the Sunrise or Paradise ranger stations for transport to the Pierce County medical examiner's office in Tacoma.

A private memorial service for Hall will be held Friday morning at the Jackson Visitor Center at the Paradise ranger station.
