WOODLAND, Wash. —

A railroad spokesman says a southbound Amtrak train has struck and killed a young woman on rail tracks near Woodland, Wash.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman Gus Melonas said the unidentified woman killed Wednesday night was believed to be in her mid-20s. He says witnesses told authorities she was one of two people at the end of a Woodland-area rail bridge. The other person was believed to be unhurt.

KATU-TV says the Clark County sheriff's office reports that a boyfriend and girlfriend were walking on the railroad bridge when the woman was struck.

According to Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari, the train was bound from Seattle to Eugene, Ore. He said there were no injuries on the train.

Train traffic through the area was temporarily halted.

The death was under investigation.
