OLYMPIA, Wash. —

As she heads into her final months as governor of Washington state, Gov. Chris Gregoire is preparing for her official portrait that will hang alongside other former governors in the state Capitol.

Gregoire had a second photo shoot on Monday with Sammamish artist Michele Rushworth, who is painting the portrait that will be unveiled later this year. She did an initial photo shoot in April. On Monday, Rushworth shot photos of the two-term governor standing at her desk in her office, as well as with a stand of 22 coins to signify Gregoire as the state's 22nd governor. Gregoire leaves office in January.

Rushworth also painted the official portrait of former Gov. Gary Locke, who is now the U.S. ambassador to China. The cost of the portrait is $18,000. Gregoire's office said that it will be paid for with money set aside for the transition team for new governor elected in November.
