SEATTLE —

A fishing vessel fire off the Washington coast created a large plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.

U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Nathan Bradshaw says the boat was located more than 12 miles off the coast of Washington, near Moclips on the southwest corner of the state.

Bradshaw says three people on board the vessel were rescued by another fishing boat Thursday afternoon. No injuries were reported at the time.

Bradshaw says despite the vessel's fire system working, large plumes of smoke rose.

The 175-foot buoy tender Henry Blake responded as well as a helicopter.
