SPOKANE, Wash. —

Mary Rock wasn't about to give up her car without a fight.

The 87-year-old Spokane woman fought back Tuesday when a man suspected of shooting two Spokane County sheriff's deputies broke down her back door, ripped her phone off the wall and demanded her car keys.

Rock used her heavy wooden cane to beat on suspect Charles R. Wallace and shouted that he leave her north Spokane house.

Police say Wallace drove the woman's car on a wild police chase, shooting at law enforcement officers before crashing the car just outside of Deer Park and shooting himself fatally in the head.
