SEATTLE —

A man accused of strangling an 80-year-old woman 33 years ago in Renton acknowledged Monday he would likely be convicted of second-degree manslaughter.

In return for Ronald Wayne MacDonald's guilty plea, known as an Alford plea, King County prosecutors are recommending a 16-month sentence. The maximum sentence is five years.

KOMO News reports ( http://is.gd/hEpYB6) that with credit for time served MacDonald could walk free when he is sentenced in August.

Investigators say MacDonald strangled and robbed Arlene Roberts, a widow who lived alone.

The 1978 case went unsolved until last year when detectives re-analyzed latent fingerprints and matched MacDonald, who had lived near her home at the time.
