STEVENSON, Wash. —

A Portland kayaker drowned on the Little White Salmon River in Skamania County.

The sheriff's office says 38-year-old Jennifer Watson was with a group of 10 kayakers Saturday when she capsized in white water. CPR was unsuccessful, and her body was removed from the rugged terrain by the Clark County Technical Rescue Team.

Undersheriff Dave Cox says Watson was an experience kayaker but had never been on that challenging stretch of river.
