EVERETT, Wash. —

Naval Station Everett's "Freedom Festival" returns June 30 after it was canceled last year because of security concerns.

Visitors can tour ships including a guided-missile destroyer, a frigate or a Coast Guard cutter, but not the USS Nimitz. That giant nuclear-powered aircraft carrier is out on a training mission and isn't expected back in time for the festival.

Lt. Cmdr. Karin Burzynski says Nimitz crew is preparing for overseas deployment this summer.

The Herald of Everett says ( http://bit.ly/Mgrcjx) the festival is one of the few chances the public has to go on base. Ship tours are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
