ASTORIA, Ore. —

Oregon State Police say a 53-year-old Longview, Wash., woman was killed in a collision between her car and a tractor-trailer rig on State Highway 30 east of Astoria.

Lt. Gregg Hastings says a car driven by Carol Lorraine Howard was eastbound Thursday morning when it veered into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a Kenworth truck pulling an empty chip trailer.

Truck driver Randy Davies of Bay City, Ore., tried to avoid the impact. Hastings says Davies was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Howard was dead at the scene.

State Police say she had been reported as a missing person Wednesday evening to the Cowlitz County, Wash., sheriff's office.

The stretch of highway was closed for most of the day, reopening late Thursday afternoon.
