Work to remove the Glines Canyon Dam on the Elwha River is ahead of schedule and should be completed next year - a year earlier than expected.
A Bureau of Land Management river expert, Tim Randle, updated the Port Angeles City Council Tuesday on the work.
Workers finished removing the lower dam on the river, the 108-foot Elwha Dam, in March.
Project manager Brian Krohmer told the Peninsula Daily News ( http://is.gd/O2XG0R) it will take 25 blasts to tear down the 210-foot Glines Canyon Dam.
The dam removal is part of a $325 million project to restore salmon runs on the river through Olympic National Park.
