Expect congestion around Seattle as tens of thousands attend a variety of events. Here are some of the bigger ones:
March of Dimes March for Babies
Start: 9 a.m. Seattle Center grounds
Participants: 4,000
March route: Exits Seattle Center grounds at Second and Mercer; east on Mercer to Fifth; south on Fifth to Cedar; west on Cedar to Second; south on Second to Spring; U-turn at Spring and north on Second back to Seattle Center; expect congestion along the route.
Opening Day Boat Parade and Windermere Cup
Dragon-boat race: 10:05 a.m.
Crew race: 10:20 a.m.
Parade of boats: noon
Where: Montlake Cut, Portage Bay and Union Bay
Attendance: 10,000
Bridge notes: The Montlake Bridge will be closed to vehicles from 10 a.m. to about 4 p.m. Bridges on the Ship Canal may open more frequently than usual due to heavy boat traffic.
Birth of Buddha Parade
Start: 10 a.m. Hing Hay Park
Participants: 900
Parade route: From Maynard and King, moves north on Maynard to Jackson; east on Jackson to the Red Apple supermarket parking lot at 23rd Avenue South. Police will escort.
Fiesta 5K Olé!
Start: 9:30 a.m. Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill
Participants: 1,700
Route: Leaves Volunteer Park at 14th and Prospect; goes east on Prospect to 15th; north on 15th to Howe; west on Howe to Federal; south on Federal to Prospect; east on Prospect to 12th; south on 12th to John; U-turn, then north on 12th back into Volunteer Park.
Seattle Sounders vs. Philadelphia Union
Match: 1:30 p.m. at CenturyLink Field
Expected attendance: 34,000
Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins
Game: 6:10 p.m. at Safeco Field
Expected attendance: 22,000
