Washington is adopting a Blue alert system to enlist the public in looking for cop killers.
Gov. Chris Gregoire signed the Blue alert bill into law on Thursday.
Similar to the Amber alert for abducted children, the Blue alert would use radio, TV and freeway signs to ask the public to help locate people suspected of killing or severely injuring an officer.
The bill had stalled in Olympia because of its $100,000 price tag. It passed the Legislature after the recent killing of Washington State Patrol Trooper Tony Radulescu (rad-ihl-EHS'-kyoo).
The bill was sponsored by Rep. Mike Hope of Lake Stevens, a Seattle police veteran.
