520 toll begins Thursday morning
Tolling on the Highway 520 bridge starts at 5 a.m. Thursday. Here's how it will work.
Tolling starts at 5 a.m. Thursday on the Highway 520 bridge, part of a plan to ease congestion and pay for a replacement bridge.
There will be eight rates, based on time of day, ranging from $1.10 late-night to $3.50 at peak times, in each direction, for drivers who have a state-issued Good to Go sticker that works like a debit card.
Others will be billed by mail for the toll plus a $1.50 surcharge.
Overnight, bridge crossings are free for everyone.
If a toll goes unpaid for 30 days, the motorist will be rebilled with a $5 fee. After 80 days, a $40 penalty will be added.
Getting a toll pass
Good to Go passes work for the Highway 520 bridge, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and Highway 167 HOT (high-occupancy/toll) lanes. Buy and activate passes, make account payments or ask questions at walk-in centers, online or on the phone:

Gig Harbor: 3212 50th St. Court N.W., Suite 200, off Olympic Drive. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Extended hours: Office opens at 5 a.m. Thursday, next Tuesday and next Wednesday.

Or, buy the sticker at a store: Costco, Safeway, QFC and Fred Meyer are selling the basic $5 sticker. Drivers then must go online to create and activate an account.
