The state Transportation Department is opening a public information center Thursday in Seattle to tell how replacing the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a tunnel fits into the history of the Pioneer Square neighborhood.
It's called Milepost 31, for a nearby spot on Highway 99.
The Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reports ( http://is.gd/LGswh3) the department developed the center with the local history organization HistoryLink and the Burke Museum at the University of Washington.
