YAKIMA, Wash. —

Former Washington state lawmaker Alex Deccio (DEE'-see-oh) died Tuesday evening at a Yakima hospital. He would have turned 90 years old on Friday.

Deccio served 32 years in the state House and Senate, retiring in 2006. He regarded his role in the construction of the Yakima Valley SunDome as one of his greatest accomplishments while a state senator.

State Rep. Norm Johnson told Yakima Herald-Republic ( http://bit.ly/u79JzT) Deccio had diabetes and kidney problems and took himself off dialysis treatment about six weeks ago.
