A state Fish and Wildlife agent killed a stranded bull moose in an irrigation channel near Pasco after officials ran out of options for rescuing the animal.
The Tri-City Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/otpT9D) Franklin County sheriff's deputies and local firefighters tried to drive the moose down the canal Monday afternoon by clapping, throwing small rocks and pouring water from hoses.
Wildlife Officer Brian Felton says it was not possible to tranquilize the moose, which was standing in about 4 feet of water. He killed the moose with a shotgun blast.
The carcass was towed out of the canal, and volunteers from the Richland Rod and Gun Club dressed the carcass to deliver the meat to the Tri-City Union Gospel Mission.
