The Seattle Times Co., along with five co-sponsors, is launching a yearlong public-education campaign to highlight the impact of Washington state's higher-education system on job creation and quality of life.

Called The Greater good Campaign, it aims to build awareness that the state's higher-education system provides a broader public good by creating jobs and enhancing competitiveness, economic growth and innovation.

"State disinvestment in our universities is eroding job creation and damaging our economy," said Frank Blethen, publisher of The Seattle Times. "At the University of Washington alone, every dollar invested creates $22 in economic activity and $1.48 in tax revenue."

Campaign co-sponsors include The Bellevue Collection, Safeco Insurance, Davis Wright Tremaine, Microsoft and Rowley Properties.

The campaign will launch Sunday.

Information in this article, originally published Sept. 9, 2011, was corrected Sept. 9, 2011. A previous version of this story had the wrong name for one of the five co-sponsors. The original story said the organization is called the Bellevue Connection. The correct name is the Bellevue Collection.
