Ex-Montesano police chief sentenced to jail

MONTESANO, Grays Harbor County — Ex-Montesano police chief Ray Sowers was sentenced to six months in jail for using department credit cards to make $17,000 in purchases for home electronics and other personal goods.

Sowers pleaded guilty in July to theft and identity theft charges. He was sentenced Tuesday in Grays Harbor Superior Court.

The Daily World reports (http://bit.ly/p87qzR) he'll be eligible for work release after 30 days.

The 48-year-old Sowers spent 26 years in law enforcement. He was charged after an investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
