MILAN —

A University of Washington student fell to her death from a window overlooking rock cliffs in the Italian Riviera, according to Italian police.

Kelly Rose Denman, 20, of Colorado, apparently fell out of the window of the room where she was staying in the Cinque Terre region of Italy early Saturday.

The UW confirmed that Denman was a student. She would have been a junior this fall and was a member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She was a business major.

Police commander Francesco Villa said her body was found in the water midday Saturday after friends alerted police to her disappearance. Villa said Monday the cause of death was drowning after falling 80 feet down a rocky cliff.

Denman had last been seen by a friend when they returned to the room from a night out.

Denman had been traveling through Europe with friends and had planned to go to South Africa in 10 days, according to a friend.

"She had a zest for life," the friend said. "She literally lived every day to the fullest."

Denman was a 2009 graduate of Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colo., The Denver Post reported. Her sorority asked members not to talk to the media about Denman out of respect for her family's wishes.

On Delta Gamma's Facebook page, someone from the sorority posted, "Thank you everyone for your unconditional love and support over the past couple of days. We are so blessed to have known such a beautiful, strong and passionate woman who will forever inspire us to experience life to the fullest. We love you Kelly."
