Attorney General Rob McKenna has raised more than $600,000 in the opening weeks of what is expected to be one of the nation's most competitive campaigns for governor, a spokeswoman said Friday.
McKenna's campaign said it hasn't finished tallying all the money raised through the end of June and doesn't have final numbers reflecting how much cash he has on hand. The $600,000 does not include any transfers from the Republican's attorney general campaign fund or any personal money.
"We are excited," said campaign spokeswoman Mariana Parks. "We think it indicates that people across the state are excited about his new direction for Washington."
Democratic opponent Jay Inslee has not released his June figures, and a spokeswoman said they were still counting. He previously reported raising some $110,000 during the week starting June 20.
Both sides say the race will likely cost millions. The leading candidates for governor in 2008 raised and spent more than $10 million each.
