RICHLAND, Wash. —

Richland police responding to a report of a suspicious person shot and killed a man Sunday morning.

A police spokesman says officers dispatched to the area found the man in a vehicle at about 6:30 a.m. in the area of Cottonwood and Thayer drives. Police say that after officers confronted the man, shots were fired. The man died at the scene.

Capt. Jeff Taylor said Sunday afternoon that more than one officer fired but he declined to say how many. He said he did immediately know other details, including whether the man had been armed, because officers had not yet been interviewed.

The Tri-City Special Investigation Unit is investigating.
