Mercer Street ramps now re-opened
The Interstate-5 on- and offramps at Mercer Street opened late Saturday night, about 27 hours ahead of schedule, after a construction-related closure.
The Interstate-5 on- and offramps at Mercer Street reopened just before 10 p.m. Saturday night, a full day ahead of schedule, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation.
Work crews completed making cuts in the pavement at the intersection of Fairview Avenue North and Mercer Street to get ready for future utility installations, as well as surveying the ramps to prepare for realigning future westbound lanes of Mercer Street. Three more weekend closures are planned in May.
Saturday's lane shutdowns created congestion throughout the South Lake Union area, and cause southbound backups of about a mile, as drivers detoured to the Stewart Street exit.
The northbound I-5 onramp at University Street also reopened Saturday night.
