KENNEWICK, Wash. —

The state has fined a Pasco potato company $99,000 after a worker was caught in a vegetable dehydrating machine while cleaning it.

The state Department of Labor and Industries said in a statement that an investigation found problems with Washington Potato Co.'s safety programs.

The incident occurred Sept. 30. The worker was hospitalized with injuries but survived.

State officials said the company had been cited for similar issues in the past.

A company official did not immediately return a telephone message seeking comment. Washington Potato Co. has 15 days to appeal the citation.
