Mormons in Mukilteo are breaking ground on a new church this weekend, following an arson that destroyed their old one.
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints say they hope to have the new church completed by Christmas. The old building burned in October; surveillance video from a nearby high school captured someone throwing a Molotov cocktail at it.
The Herald of Everett reports that detectives continue to investigate the arson.
The building was home to the Harbour Pointe and Beverly Park wards, with about 800 people in both congregations. Neighboring Mormon churches in Everett and Lynnwood took in the two congregations with hardly any interruption in services.
