4 vehicle crashes kill 6 in Puget Sound region Sunday

Four vehicle crashes across the Puget Sound region claimed the lives of six people Sunday. Lynnwood police reported Sunday evening that a motorcyclist was killed along Highway 99 at 208th Street Southwest in a collision with a sport-utility vehicle. No other injuries were reported in the 7 p.m. accident. Further details were unavailable.

Early Sunday morning in Mason County, three men died after their vehicle struck a tree near the town of Allyn.

A 20-year-old Port Orchard man was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Corsica south on Highway 3 when he apparently missed a turn near milepost 22 and drove off the roadway, according to the Washington State Patrol. The Corsica struck a tree around 3:23 a.m. before rolling several times, the State Patrol said.

The driver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, and three passengers died at the scene. A fifth person in the car, an 18-year-old man, was taken to Mason General Hospital, the State Patrol said. Their conditions were unknown.

The State Patrol identified the deceased as Bryan Blackburn, 22, of Bremerton, Daniel Tedder, 20, of Belfair, and Tyler Jankunas, 20, hometown unknown.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. State Patrol spokeswoman Krista Hedstrom said detectives are still investigating the cause of the crash.

In Pierce County, an Auburn woman died after she apparently drove off Interstate 5 in Tacoma.

Toni M. Spaulding, 51, was driving south on the freeway just before 1 a.m., approaching South 48th Street, when her vehicle went off the right shoulder and struck a dirt embankment, according to the Washington State Patrol.

After striking the embankment, the Honda launched into the air and struck the 48th Street overpass, the Patrol said. Spaulding died at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. The State Patrol did not say whether Spaulding was wearing a seat belt.

In Clallam County, a 44-year-old Port Angeles woman died after a vehicle crossed a highway centerline and collided with her pickup.

Ellen De Bondt was driving east on Highway 112, seven miles west of Port Angeles, when she was struck and killed shortly before 8 a.m., according to the State Patrol. Troopers say that a 24-year-old Port Angeles woman was booked into the Clallam County Jail for investigation of vehicular homicide and DUI, according to jail records.

The 24-year-old woman is being held at the Clallam County Jail without bail, jail records said. A 27-year-old woman who was a passenger in the suspect's vehicle suffered minor injuries, the State Patrol said
