Auburn man held in killing of ex's current boyfriend

A King County District Court judge on Friday found probable cause to hold a 26-year-old Auburn man for investigation of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting Thursday in Federal Way.

The judge ordered Michael Ray Fiorini held in the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent on $2.5 million bail, according to the King County Prosecutor's Office.

Fiorini is suspected of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment and killing her 27-year-old boyfriend, according to the probable-cause statement filed in court.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office on Friday identified the shooting victim as Christopher D. Johnson, who died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Around 3:15 a.m. Thursday, Fiorini allegedly smashed the sliding glass door to an apartment in the 33000 block of 18th Place South, the statement says. He is accused of entering the apartment, confronting his ex-girlfriend, 27, who was lying on the couch, and pointing a gun at her, according to the statement.

Johnson, the woman's current boyfriend, came out of a bedroom and approached the woman and Fiorini, the statement says. Johnson was shot in the chest and died in the apartment, it says.

A K-9 unit tracked Fiorini from the apartment, and he was arrested one-tenth of a mile east of the crime scene, according to the statement. Fiorini was still armed when arrested, and police found a fired cartridge case in the chamber of the gun, the statement says.

Prosecutors are expected to file formal charges Monday.
