Longtime Wash. senator blasts possible replacement

Longtime Republican state Sen. Bob McCaslin of Spokane is blasting one of his potential replacements.

The Associated Press

SPOKANE, Wash. —

Longtime Republican state Sen. Bob McCaslin of Spokane is blasting one of his potential replacements.

The Spokesman-Review reports that McCaslin sent a letter to county commissioners saying that under no circumstances would he support state Rep. Matt Shea for any public office.

McCaslin stepped down last month for health reasons. Shea is one of three nominees to replace him.

McCaslin says a deal had been in place that former legislator and District Court Judge Mike Padden would be among the nominees, but that Shea broke his word.

The others are Jeff H. Baxter, who was an unsuccessful write-in candidate for a West Valley School Board position in 2009, and Roy Murry, who operates a security business.

The newspaper says Shea could not be reached for comment.
