Ex-Montesano Police Chief Ray Sowers pleaded not guilty to theft charges.

The Associated Press

MONTESANO, Wash. —

Ex-Montesano Police Chief Ray Sowers pleaded not guilty to theft charges.

He's accused of spending up to $10,000 from city credit cards on personal purchases.

The Daily World of Aberdeen reports Sowers was released without bail after Monday's arraignment.

He resigned in September after a Washington State Patrol investigation recommended charges.
