The water is smooth and shallow for Tom Hanny, of Northwest Paddle Surfers, who was at the Seattle Boat Show on Friday to promote the sport. He says the board is "so stable you could eat your dinner off it." It's a 9-foot, 2-inch carbon-fiber board that weighs little more than 20 pounds. The show continues at Qwest Field Event Center and South Lake Union through Jan. 30.
