Abandoned cars in Seattle block DOT sanding trucks

The Washington Transportation Department says its sanding trucks were blocked overnight in may parts of the Seattle area by cars that were abandoned or wrecked in the Monday night commute.

SEATTLE —

The Washington Transportation Department says its sanding trucks were blocked overnight in may parts of the Seattle area by cars that were abandoned or wrecked in the Monday night commute.

Spokeswoman Meghan Pembroke says the department has about 100 trucks in the area from Seattle to the Canadian border trying to sand highways. The department is urging drivers to stay home until conditions improve.

Pembroke says drivers who head out should have full gas tanks.
