WA Dem Sen. Murray expands lead over GOP's Rossi

Democratic U.S. Sen. Patty Murray is again expanding her lead over Republican challenger Dino Rossi as a third day of vote tallies are posted in Washington state.

Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Democratic U.S. Sen. Patty Murray is again expanding her lead over Republican challenger Dino Rossi as a third day of vote tallies are posted in Washington state.

Thursday's early vote count has pushed Murray's lead to about 50,000 votes out of roughly 1.7 million counted so far. That's about 51.5 percent to Rossi's 48.5 percent. More counties are expected to report votes later Thursday.

Murray has led since the first vote counts on Election Day. But there are still hundreds of thousands of ballots to count in Washington's slow-moving vote-by-mail system.
