Crowds overrun Japanese garden in Spokane park

SPOKANE, Wash. —

A Japanese garden at Spokane's Manito Park is so popular that crowds sometimes ruin the peaceful experience of the arched bridge over a koi pond.

More than 2,000 people visited the park Saturday, and gardeners told The Spokesman-Review it was overrun with too many people.

Monitors are asking visitors to follow the rules: stay on pathways, no dogs and take your picnic elsewhere.

The garden was completed in 1974 to symbolize Spokane's sister-sister relationship with Nishinomiya, Japan.
