Unseasonable rain expected all day for W. Washington

The National Weather Service forecasts about one inch of rain Tuesday in much of Western Washington as an unseasonable wet and windy system moves through the Northwest.

SEATTLE —

The National Weather Service forecasts about one inch of rain Tuesday in much of Western Washington as an unseasonable wet and windy system moves through the Northwest.

Forecasters expect more than two inches of rain in the Olympics and Cascades. The higher elevations of Mount Rainier could have more than a foot of new snow.

Forecasters say the showers should taper off Wednesday and the sun could return Thursday before clouds move in for the Labor Day weekend in Western Washington.

In Eastern Washington, the Weather Service says the front will bring only about one-half-inch of rain by Wednesday, followed by clearing skies Thursday and a cool and dry holiday weekend.
