Medicaid cards in mail to 1 million Washington residents

The Washington Department of Social and Health Services will be mailing 1 million plastic ID cards this month to Medicaid clients in the state.

The Associated Press

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

The Washington Department of Social and Health Services will be mailing 1 million plastic ID cards this month to Medicaid clients in the state.

The services cards are part of the change to the ProviderOne payment system. The department says the cards are more convenient than paper coupons. Doctors will use them to verify eligibility.

When it goes online May 9, ProviderOne will handle more than $17 million a day in Medicaid payments.

The card rollout had been scheduled for last year but was delayed for more testing.
