Soldier from Tacoma dies from injuries suffered in Iraq
A soldier from Tacoma injured in Iraq last week has died in a hospital in Germany, according to the Department of Defense.

A Washington National Guardsman died Thursday of wounds sustained in Iraq.
Sgt. William C. Spencer, 40, of Tacoma, died at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, the Department of Defense announced Friday. His injuries, suffered Sunday, were not combat related and are under investigation.
Sgt. Spencer was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 146th Field Artillery Regiment in Olympia. He served in Iraq with the Washington National Guard's 81st Brigade Combat Team until August and then decided to stay in Iraq with the Mississippi National Guard when the 81st returned home.
A memorial service has not yet been scheduled.
About 300 members of the Washington National Guard are presently actively serving, according to the National Guard.
