Community Transit is starting its new bus rapid-transit system on Sunday between Everett and Shoreline, just north of Seattle. The $29.6 million bus line, called Swift, is the first of its kind in the state.
Buses on the 17-mile route along State Route 99 will make only 12 stops at special stations, compared to about 50 stops for regular buses. Community Transit says that should cut time on the route to about 45 minutes, about half the time for local buses.
The special buses, with three doors and bike racks on board, will come by every 10 minutes on weekdays and 20 minutes on nights and weekends. The buses also can extend green lights by a few seconds to keep on schedule.
Full service on the system starts Monday.
