Gonzaga F Austin Daye likely staying in NBA draft

Gonzaga forward Austin Daye is confident he'll be a first-round pick and is heavily leaning toward keeping his name in the NBA draft.

AP Sports Writer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Gonzaga forward Austin Daye is confident he'll be a first-round pick and is heavily leaning toward keeping his name in the NBA draft.

Daye declared for the draft after his sophomore season but didn't hire an agent, leaving him the opportunity to change his mind by Monday's deadline.

Despite questions about the lanky 6-foot-10 forward's strength and toughness, Daye said after working out for the Charlotte Bobcats on Thursday that "things look good" that he'll turn pro.

Daye, from Irvine, Calif., said he won't make a final decision until close to Monday's deadline and after he's spoken to his father, former NBA player Darren Daye. He has workouts planned with New Jersey and New York before then.

Daye averaged 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds for Gonzaga last season.
