A march and rally calling for affordable health care for those in need are expected to draw big crowds and nearly 200 organizations in Seattle today.
Organizers say they expect thousands of people to gather at Pratt Park in Seattle's Central Area for the start of a march to Westlake Park in downtown Seattle where a rally will be held.
Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., is scheduled to speak at Pratt Park to kick off the event at 12:30 p.m., according to her office. Pratt Park is at East Yesler Way and 20th Avenue South.
Organizers say the event, "Health Care for All in 2009 — Mother's Leading the Way!" is expected to draw people from across the state.
Groups representing small businesses, community groups, labor unions, health clinics, immigrant-rights groups and faith-based institutions are expected at the event, Murray's office said.
