King County Council honors Executive Ron Sims

The King County Council plans to pause at 11 a.m. Monday to recognize County Executive Ron Sims for his service before he heads to Washington, D.C.

SEATTLE —

The King County Council plans to pause at 11 a.m. Monday to recognize County Executive Ron Sims for his service before he heads to Washington, D.C.

Sims is expected to be confirmed as deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The council would appoint a replacement to serve as executive until the November election.

The 60-year-old Sims is a native of Spokane and a graduate of Central Washington University. He was appointed King County executive in 1996 after Gary Locke was elected governor.

Sims has won elections for county executive but lost statewide races for the Senate in 1994 and the Democratic primary for governor in 2004.
