Lack of pet license to carry $75 fine

Starting April 1, dog and cat owners in unincorporated King County who fail to license their pets could face a $75 fine.

King County

Starting April 1, dog and cat owners in unincorporated King County who fail to license their pets could face a $75 fine.

The county's Records and Licensing Services Division says it wants to maintain a record to improve chances of returning lost pets to their owners and at the same time to cut down the county's costs for sheltering lost pets.

Licensed pets are easier to reunite with their owners, the county says. The annual pet-license fee for a spayed or neutered pet is $30; the annual license fee for an unaltered pet is $90. Some discounts are available for young pets and for senior owners.

Licenses can be purchased online, by mail, and at grocery stores, veterinarians and animal shelters.
