It's Octopus Week at the Seattle Aquarium, and handlers were hoping an arranged meeting between two Pacific octopuses — Popeye, a 45-pound male, and Pepper, a 35-pound female — would end arm-in-arm-in-arm-in-arm-in-arm.

It's Octopus Week at the Seattle Aquarium, and handlers were hoping an arranged meeting between two Pacific octopuses — Popeye, a 45-pound male, and Pepper, a 35-pound female — would end arm-in-arm-in-arm-in-arm-in-arm.
But just as it is on dry land, not all blind dates work out. Though the mood was set with Barry White music, Popeye chose to sleep in his corner while Pepper never got closer than half a tank away.
And time for hooking up is running out, as Popeye will be released back into Puget Sound today.
The week's activities at the aquarium will include a video feed of Popeye's release and daily hands-on activities for kids.
Update: Tim Kuniholm, director of marketing for the Seattle Aquarium said the two octopuses mated successfully Sunday morning. At noon, Popeye was released back to the Puget Sound from the aquarium.
