2 Snohomish Co. boys die in house fire

Two young boys are dead after being unable to escape a house fire that broke out in their home in Snohomish County late Friday night, fire officials said.

ARLINGTON, Wash. —

Two young boys are dead after being unable to escape a house fire that broke out in their home in Snohomish County late Friday night, fire officials said.

Snohomish County fire officials said eight other members of the family - including six children - were able to escape the blaze that started around 11 p.m. on Friday, The Herald of Everett reports. Those family members were taken to an area hospital.

North County Fire Battalion Chief Christian Davis said the two boys - ages 11 and 12 - were not able to make it out of the house when the fire started. Davis said investigators have not yet found the boys' bodies.

"It was a hot and dangerous fire. Crews haven't been able to access the house," Davis said.

Neighbors say the blaze engulfed the house with 50-feet high flames. Some of them gathered outside the burnt home Saturday morning in the Arlington, Wash., neighborhood.

"It's a sad, sad tragedy," said Steve Schaff, who lives next door. "The whole house was orange. Flames were coming out of every window and door."

Schaff said the family moved to the neighborhood about a year ago and was remodeling the two-story house. He added some of the kids were foster children.

Authorities have not released the nature of the boys' relationship to the rest of the family.
