Everett police officers responding to a burglary-in-progress call this morning fatally shot an armed man in the 2400 block of 23rd Street in Everett.
The officers were investigating reports of someone shattering windows and breaking down the door of a home when they were confronted by the man at 1:44 a.m., according to the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office. When the man refused to put down the firearm, the three officers fired numerous times, hitting the man, the Sheriff's Office said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released, but authorities said he appears to be in his mid- to late 30s. All three Everett police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, a routine procedure. One of the officers is a 24-year-old woman who has been with the department for 2 ½ years. The second officer is a 29-year-old man who has been with the department for 1 ½ years. The third officer is a 33-year-old man who has been with the department for two years.
Detectives were still working on a search warrant this morning in order to enter the house. They have not confirmed the type of firearm the armed man had. It is not known how many shots were fired by the officers or if the armed man fired at them. The case is being investigated by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team.
