The Seattle Police Harbor Patrol have found the body of a man who they believe is the swimmer who disappeared Aug. 21 near Golden Gardens.
Police spokesman Jeff Kappel said the body was found Friday afternoon near the Shilshole boat ramp. "It's a high possibility this is the missing swimmer from a week ago," he said.
During the search, authorities identified the man as 21-year-old man as Brent M. Sweet from Los Alamos, N.M.
The case is not considered a suspicious death, Kappel added.
Sweet and a companion had been trying to swim to a buoy about 200 yards from shore, police said.
Harbor Patrol found one of the swimmers alive, a 29-year-old man, minutes later, Kappel said. Fire boats, police, the Coast Guard and the King County helicopter spent hours searching for Sweet after he was reported missing.
The King County Medical Examiner's office has not positively identifed the body found Friday as Sweet's.
